The 'Shameless' actor - who is expecting a baby with fiancee Sarah Byrne - enjoyed a brief romance with the singer earlier this year after he starred in the video to her single 'Sight of You', and though they got on well, he doesn't think they should have got romantically involved.
He said: ''She did pursue me. We met after shooting her video, 'Sight of You', and we hit it off - but some things just don't carry on the way they should. We should have just kept it as friends, but maybe we just read things the wrong way.
''Basically, after dating for a short period of time, it wasn't going in the direction relationships should, so we decided to just be friends. A few texts were sent back and forth, but in the end it was a mutual decision. We haven't stayed in contact, but we haven't fallen out and there's no animosity.''
Tulisa started dating soccer player Danny Simpson soon after her romance with Jody ended, but he insists he wasn't upset.
He added in an interview with Britain's OK! magazine: ''It wasn't like she dumped me and then met someone else the night after. It just wasn't going in the direction it should have gone so we cooled it down. She's a great girl and we got on well.''
