The Police in Lagos, Lagos State, on Monday said it arrested eight persons suspected to be armed while robbing.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Umar Manko, told reporters in Lagos that one of them was the remaining member of Abey Godogodo gang.
"The robbery gang had been terrorising people in the South-West. The arrest thus ends about 30 year’s dynasty of this notorious armed robbery gang."
The police chief said the suspects were being held at the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS), over the killing of two policemen at the Iju area of Lagos.
He said that after killing the two policemen who were on duty a fortnight ago, the suspects also went away with their service rifles.
Manko expressed happiness with the 'outstanding' performance of the State Anti-Robbery Squad.
According to him, the team is the brain behind the series of arrests of hoodlums and the recovery of arms and ammunition.
The commissioner listed the arms and ammunition recovered to include two Ak-47 rifles, two Ak-47 magazines fully loaded, one automatic pump action gun, four locally made pistols and 135 live cartridges.
He said the police were out to maintain peace during the ember months and urged the people to go about their lawful businesses with confidence.
