Infidelity Mess Trails Angela Okorie, Yemi Blaq

Click for Full Image Size
Rumours of actors and actresses warming each other’s bodies while on movie locations are not new in Nollywood. In fact, it is a very common thing that goes on almost every time. The rate of infidelity in the Nigerian film industry is almost the same rate at which movies are churned out by filmmakers in Nigeria.

It is no doubt that when adultery scandal involves married people, eyebrows are raised. Information flying around now is alleging Angela Okorie and Yemi Blaq of infidelity mess.

Reports alleged Angela and Yemi of sleeping with each other on a movie set recently. They were said to have gone into a secret place on the movie set to do what married adults do in their closet.

It was alleged that Yemi took advantage of a drunken Angela and that the dark in complexion actor started ‘acting another script’ on Angela, before they allegedly went away from others to ‘act, direct and produce their movie’.

Those at the said location that day were Bimbo Akintola, Francis Duru and others, who were reportedly not happy with the shame their colleagues were giving the industry.

According to reports, Yemi later stormed the set asking for the whereabouts of his mobile phone. This reportedly caused disaffection on the set, but the ‘lost’ mobile phone was later reportedly found at the ‘Wembley Stadium’ where ‘Arsenal and Manchester United played a goalless draw.’

When contacted by Nigeriafilms.com on this story, Angela Okorie denied having an extra-marital affair with anybody. She further said, ‘please I don’t like this kind of publicity. Please don’t publish that story because it is not true. I will give you my publicist’s number; he will speak to you because I don’t talk about issues to the press. He is in the best position to talk.’

Minutes later, Angela’s publicist called us and informed us that there is no iota of truth in the rumour. ‘The story is not true,’ he said.

Efforts to also contact Yemi Blaq on this story proved abortive as he could not be reached for his reaction before publishing this story.

Angela Okorie and Yemi Blaq are both married with children.

Femi Kuti, son of the late Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, says the family will not accept any centenary award in his honour.

In a twitter correspondence with PM News on Tuesday, Femi further disclosed that the family has not yet been officially notified of a centenary award for Fela. He made it clear that the Federal Government should first apologise for the killing of his grandmother, Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, and, burning of Kalakuta Republic before accepting the award.

“We have not heard such but I can speak for myself, FG should first apologise for the killing of our grandmother and burning of Kalakuta,” he wrote.

Asked if the family will accept the award if the government apologises for the two wrongs mentioned, Femi said, “Like I said, we have not heard anything from the Federal Government. But I doubt if the family will accept the award.”

For over two decades, Fela sang and protested against anti-people policies of the government. Beginning from the 70s, he was a torn in the flesh of military and civilian administrations in Nigeria.

Fela is to be awarded alongside 99 others as part of the centenary celebration according to a statement released by the Presidential Committee on Nigeria’s Centenary Celebrations. He will be honoured by the FG in the ‘Internationally Acclaimed Artistes, Literary Icons and Journalists’ category.

At the ceremony, President Jonathan would be presenting awards in 13 categories to 100 distinguished personalities, either alive or dead, who eminently symbolised the tapestry of Nigeria’s first centenary.

The award is slated to hold at the Banquet Hall, State House, Abuja, on February 28, 2014.

Click for Full Image Size
Some Nollywood celebrities visited Aso Rock some days ago and it was reported that they went to beg for money from the presidency when Kabat Esosa lashed them, however, Seun Arinze has explained that they all went to the Villa with their own money.
Kabat Esosa had said ‘One question I think begs an answer from them is; what was the reason and value of the Presidential visit? How have their visit added anything to the hue and cry in the country in respect of security, unemployment etc.‘

Segun Arinze now have to reply him “I think it’s so unfair for anyone to criticise AGN for paying a courtesy visit to President Goodluck Jonathan. We are an Association in Nollywood and our visit was to discuss issues as it affects our Guild and the industry in general. Everybody transported themselves to and fro.

We didn’t go begging for alms. Pls do read Madam President Ibinabo Fiberisma’s speech which has been sent by mail to you. Kabat’s statement was totally uncalled for. We are very apolitical. We have a right to visit GEJ after all he’s the president of the federal Republic of Nigeria,’ Segun began.

Chyke Bryan who is the president of screen writers guild is down with kidney problem. What have the members of that guild of whom Kabat is also a member done to raise money for his treatment? They should stop poking their noses in other people’s business. And focus on how to move the industry forward instead of bickering and sulking like Children. Making a mountain out of a molehill.’

See statement below:

Having taken special notice of reports of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria and other investigating bodies, which indicate clearly that Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi’s tenure has been characterized by various acts of financial recklessness and misconduct which are inconsistent with the administration’s vision of a Central Bank propelled by the core values of focused economic management, prudence, transparency and financial discipline;

Being also deeply concerned about far-reaching irregularities under Mallam Sanusi’s watch which have distracted the Central Bank away from the pursuit and achievement of its statutory mandate; and

Being determined to urgently re-position the Central Bank of Nigeria for greater efficiency, respect for due process and accountability, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has ordered the immediate suspension of Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi from the Office of Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

It might look like one of those Nollywood’s make-believe stories but people close to Chika Nancy Ike are swearing to high heavens that the Igbo born lady does anything for money including “seeing” men and allegedly same sex.

Genevieve Nanji Is A Sweet Girl- Hakeem Kae Kazim

Click for Full Image Size
Born October 1, 1962, Hakeem Kae-Kazim is a British Nigerian actor British who is best known for playing the character, of Georges Rutangada in the 2004 blockbuster movie, Hotel Rwanda.

He also starred as Colonel Iké Dubaku in season 7 of 24 and the TV film tie-in 24: Redemption.

Coming to Nollywood, he’s starred in movies like Last Flight To Abuja and Half Of A Yellow Sun. Hakeem Kae Kzim talks about growing up, career, family and other issues.

What’s it like growing up outside Nigeria?

Well it’s great, feels normal. Nothing really specially anyway and as you know, I am a Nigerian and I bear our name. But I don’t think I missed anything actually because until the last two years I always spent my Christmas here in Nigeria, I love local dishes, I love our traditional wears too.

So you come to see your family during Christmas?

Yes I come here to see my mum because I was almost two years when my parents took my elder brother and I to the UK and we’ve been there ever since. But my dad is late now and my mum shuffles between here and the UK but my elder brother is based there with his family. I’m from Abeokuta so I always go there to see my mum.

How did acting start for you?

I started off studying drama and from there I was doing a lot of stage plays and theater in the UK. From the UK, I moved to South Africa and did a lot of films and commercials on South African Television. From South Africa, I moved to the US where I am now, still doing what I have always loved to do-acting.

You’ve taken part in a lot of blockbuster movies like Hotel Rwander, 24, which one of the movies was your big break?

Each one of them is unique is their own way. ’24′ was quite awesome and then, ‘Hotel Rwanda’ which I was very glad to be part of. Then I have done ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ and the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’.

Click for Full Image Size
I’m sure it wasn’t all rosy. What were the challenges you faced as an African breaking into Hollywood?

Yes it wasn’t all sweet at the beginning because there were times when I was broke and was hard to put food on my table. Getting movie roles was also a challenge because here in Nigeria you’re sure to keep getting scripts but it’s not like that in the UK, if you get a movie role today, you might not get another until like 2-3 months time. But all in all, it’s been good experiences.

You came into Nigeria few days ago and you already shot the Etisalat advert with Genevieve Nanji. What is it like being on set with her?

Yeah, Genevieve is a sweet girl and she’s quite good at whatever she does. So, it was awesome working with her.

If she’s that good, do you think she stands a chance getting into Hollywood?

It depends on the kind of opportunity that comes and way and how prepared she is to grab it. If she gets a good and international standard movie role and she rises up to the expectation then, she’ll definitely be recognised.

What other reason brought you to Nigeria?

Aside the Etisalat advert, I’m also working on partnering with some Nollywood movie directors on how to raise the standard of Nollywood movies to meet international taste. So I’m working on setting up a movie academy where our people can be trained.

So you’re not planning to star in any Nollywood movie soon?

No.

Why, are our scripts not good enough for you?

Nollywood is still growing and is yet to meet international standard in terms of directing and production. But there are few Nollywood directors who have my kind of mind set and I’ve worked with them in the past. I’ve worked with the likes of Tunde Babalola in Last Flight To Abuja produced in the UK and he’s a great guy with a great mind. I also acted in Half Of A Yellow Sun. So if I get more people like him with good scripts, why not? It’s time we start doing movies that tell our stories and history. We don’t have to wait for others to tell our story for us because they’ll end up telling it wrongly. We have the likes of great people like Sango, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Awolowo and others- we need to do historical movies like that.
Click for Full Image Size Actors are always moving from one place to another. How do you make out time for your family?

I have a very understanding wife and three lovely kids. She understands the kind of job I do and helps out most of the time.

Doesn’t she complain?

Yes she does because I’m away most of the time. She’s from South Africa and that’s where I met her. We got married and I took her to the US. Funny enough I now shoot more in South Africa and my last kid is not even two yet. But I get to see her and speak with her on Skype whenever I’m not home.

I’m sure you’d have loads of female fans. How do you cope with them?

Yes I have loads of them but there’s time for everything. I have spaces for my friends, family and fans in my heart so I don’t let anyone of them interfere with the other. I always let my female fans know that I’m married and so, I don’t bring them closer than necessary.

Have you had any embarrassing moment with a female fan before?

Yes, there was one when I got into a train and a lady saw me. She started screaming and shouting my name, she almost passed out letting everyone know I was Hakeem and acted in so so and so movie. It was quite embarrassing.
